rock at morrow bay           © lisa ann stone - 3/26/14

and as the sun sets                   on that big old rock by the bay

the sun set so low                      it just melts our cares away

up the hill we climb                    to end another day
down by the rock                       at morrow by

down by the water                       along the bay
the crowds are gone and fed       and the children tucked away
there's a little beach                     where I like to play
down by the rock                          at morrow bay

lazy sunday afternoons             the kind that doesn't end too soon
watching surfers                        and playing tunes
before too long                          and too many songs
we get to                                    greet the moon

down by the water                       along the bay
the crowds are gone and fed       and the children tucked away
there's a little beach                     where I like to play
down by the rock                          at morrow bay

skinner                 © lisa ann stone - 3/26/14

the pierce brothers           they pioneered
the abalone industry        in all the state
you know that skinner      lived his whole life
right here                          in morrow bay

well he lived his life with hour, wit and honor
with that big old perpetual grin

you always knew you had a friend
no matter what kind of shape you were in

one april fools day, skinner was working
out on highway one, he was loading
the biggest landslide in history
but just between you and me
I'll bet he's still up there grinning

run whatcha brung                 © lisa ann stone - 1/31/14

life ain't so easy                you're kind hung

up on the starting gate                everyone's up and gone

just a little slow down                you'll get your chance for fun

life don't give you everything            so you run whatcha brung

competition's fierce                in the pro stock classes

some trailer it all                where they come from

you can't afford                to go that fast

you ain't got it all                so you run whatcha brung

life aint a race        enjoy it at your own pace

and smell the roses along the way

you try to live your dreams            while you're in your prime

but your body is now giving out        long before it's time

so much more to see                before the swan has sung

so you gather all the strength you have    and you run whatcha brung

show me the color    © lisa ann stone - august 6, 2007

show me the color of the sunlight in your hair
laughing in the meadow with flowers everywhere
softly caress me then you kiss me if you dare
young romance was in the air

show me the color of a warm mid-summers eve

fragrance of blooming flowers wafting in the breeze

fireflies lighting up their ballet through the trees

reminiscing memories like these

show me the color of the ocean at first dawn

fading silhouette of the ship you’re leaving on

it’s hard to realize you really will be gone

old memories they help me carry on

which is worse    © lisa ann stone - 2/27/13

I know my man won’t be around for long

he’ll go, I'll write another sad old song

some say there’s no good men left out there

    some say that I’m cursed

some say, I’ll die homeless and lonely

I don’t know which one is worse

I live alone, but sometimes you meet someone

sometimes they grow to be friends

sometimes they grow to be closer

sometimes it all just ends

some say there’s no good friends left out there

    some say that I’m cursed

some say, I’ll die homeless and lonely

I don’t know which one is worse

I’ll wait another week, as another year goes by

they never came around, and Ill never understand why

some say there’s no good men left out there
    some say that I’m cursed

some say, I’ll die homeless and lonely

I don’t know which one is worse

The Lady With The Alligator Purse

I had a baby brother
his name was Baby Lou
we put him in the bathtub
to see what he would do

he drank up all the water
he ate up all the soap
he tried to eat the bathtub
but it wouldn't go down his throat

someone call the doctor
someone call the nurse
someone call the lady
with the alligator purse

measles said the doctor
mumps said the nurse
indigestion said the lady
with the alligator purse

Poor Wayfaring Stranger

I'm am a poor wayfaring stranger
I'm traveling through this world of woe
yet there's no sickness, nor toil or danger
in that bright land to which I go

I'm going there to see my father
I'm going there no more to roam
I'm just a-going over Jordan
I'm just a-going over home

I know dark clouds will gather 'round me
I know my way is rough and steep
though golden fields lie just before me
where God's redeemed shall ever sleep

I'm going there to see my mother
We'll meet again, forever more
I'm only going over Jordan
I'm only going over home

I want to wear a crown of glory
when I get home to that good land
I want to shout salvation's story
in concert with the blood-washed band

I'm going there to meet my Saviour
to sing his praise forever more
I'm just a-going over Jordan
I'm just a-going over home
